When people say that this or that bottle of wine is from Canada it makes me smile. Actually, it made me smile. As not so long ago I found out that there are wineries there as people told me! For sure, Canada is not the country that is ideal for wine producing market as it is too cold and wet. At the same time 100 miles east of Vancouver there is an arid stretch of landscape where Okanagan is situated. The weather and climate there are ideal to make Okanagan one of the world’s most vibrant wine regions, a place where vintners are experimenting with many different varietals.

This vacation spot is well-known to all the canucks. The first vinery can be traced to the year 1859 when Charles Pandosy, a French-born frier built a log mission there and planted a orchard that then flourished in the fertile soil. This area has always been rich in apple trees. Though these are fabulous fruits, apple wine can’t be even said to be a nice dry table wine. But Okanagan lacks vinifera grapes, like chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon or syrah that need to produce caymus wines.

So, wineries… Hardy ever! Okanagan is really a gorgeous place where orchards are almost everywhere, apple gardens with cherries, pears and peaches. All these serve as components for wine. But have you tasted this wine? Even the Canadians say that this is almost undrinkable. They are all patriots but they still prefer old good patron reposado.
